The Academy for Public and Social Policy Musine Kokalari 2024

The Musine Kokalari Academy for Public and Social Policy, in its fourth edition, took place from July 8 to 13, 2024 at Hotel International (Prishtina).

The Programme

During the six days of the program, the Academy addressed the following topics:

 

  • Social history, myths, and nation-building processes in the Balkans

  • Political ideologies and the left–right debate in Kosovo and the region

  • Liberal democracy, international law, and secularism

  • Environmental policy and the transformation toward a just and sustainable economy

  • The care economy and gender equality from a feminist perspective

  • Racism and coloniality in the post-Yugoslav and Eastern European context

  • Social policies and progressive economics in Kosovo and the region

 

The program was further enriched with:

 

  • Screenings of documentaries, such as: ‘Whose Is This Song?‘ – on cultural belonging in the Balkans, ‘Parrullat‘ – a cinematic portrayal of totalitarian Albania, ‘Behemoth‘ – a reflection on ecological destruction and the social consequences of uncontrolled industrialization, ‘Home‘ – an environmental documentary by Luc Besson

  • Public debates and discussions, including: The panel ‘The Left and the Right in Kosovo and the Region‘ with political experts

  • Workshops and interactive activities, including: ‘Open Library‘ with LGBTQI+ activists, Research presentations such as ‘Who Cares?’ on unpaid care work in Kosovo & Workshops on ecological transition, social policy, and progressive development

The Musine Kokalari Academy for Public and Social Policy 2024 was organized with the support of
