Facilitating free trade, establishing a regional framework for the implementation of Article 6 of the Agreement on the Path to Normalization of Relations; enabling CEFTA decisions and abolishing double taxation and ensuring equal access to the labor market; are some of the recommendations from the study \u201cImproving Kosovo-Serbia Economic Relations\u201d prepared by the Institute for Social Policy Musine Kokalari from Prishtina in cooperation with the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory from Belgrade.<\/p>\n\n
This proposal document, based on the current status of regional agreements on trade and cooperation, and in line with the fundamental principles of the Brussels Agreement on the economic relationship between Kosovo and Serbia, as one of the key pillars towards a final agreement, was presented today in Prishtina during a roundtable.<\/p>\n\n
On this occasion, it was concluded that economic cooperation between Kosovo and Serbia is in the interest of peace and regional development.<\/p>\n\n
“Possible cooperation in the energy sector should be explored. Both Kosovo and Serbia need to recognize the necessity of deepening cooperation in the energy sector, the need for long-term development, and the energy transition in line with the Green Agenda, engaging in exploring opportunities to expand this cooperation,” said Mr. Ilir Deda, in his capacity as an expert involved in this report.<\/p>\n\n
Accelerating the implementation of transport projects, such as accelerating work towards a railway connection and establishing a direct flight between Belgrade and Pristina, as well as starting a strategic discussion on the complementarity of economies are some of the recommendations.<\/p>\n\n
“Kosovo and Serbia must turn from adversaries into partners for cooperation, working together and drafting a joint development plan for the four northern municipalities of Kosovo, either through the creation of a free zone in North Mitrovica or through a joint investment program to initiate their partnership in peace,” said Mr. Aleksandar Pavlovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n
After the presentation, representatives from the Embassies of the United States of America, France, the United Kingdom, non-governmental organizations, media, and others discussed the presented proposals and the opportunities for developing economic relations between Kosovo and Serbia.<\/p>\n\n
This publication will be finalized in the coming days, after incorporating suggestions from the roundtable participants.<\/p>\n\n
The report was prepared within the framework of the project \u201cThe Implementation of Article VI of the Agreement on the Path to Normalization of Relations between Kosovo and Serbia,\u201d supported by the Peaceful Change Initiative as part of the project \u201cAmplifying Local Voices for Equitable Development,\u201d with the support of UK Aid.<\/p>\n\n
