Strengthening trade union capacities to represent and protect workers\u2019 rights, improving communication with institutions and the public, as well as addressing the challenges of negotiating and implementing collective agreements, were at the centre of discussions that brought together representatives of more than 15 trade unions from various sectors across Kosovo. These issues were addressed during the workshop \u201cStrategic Trade Union Communication and Collective Bargaining\u201d, organised in Prishtina by the Institute for Social Policy Musine Kokalari.<\/p>\n\n

The workshop was held in two sessions, focusing on strategic trade union communication and collective bargaining. Their content was determined based on the needs and priorities identified by the trade union representatives themselves during the first meeting, with the aim of ensuring that both the theoretical discussions and practical work focused on the concrete challenges of trade union activities.<\/p>\n\n

During the first session, Naile Dema addressed the importance of internal communication within trade unions, as well as their relations with the media, institutions and the public, emphasising the need for clear, structured communication aimed at effectively representing workers\u2019 demands. Subsequently, Iliri Pireva led practical exercises and group work, during which participants analysed concrete situations and explored ways to improve trade union communication.<\/p>\n\n

The second session, led by Edison Hoxha, focused on the collective bargaining process, the functioning and implementation of collective agreements, the use of economic data as an argument in negotiations, as well as issues related to occupational safety. Particular attention was given to the importance of collective bargaining as an instrument for protecting workers\u2019 rights and improving their working conditions.<\/p>\n\n

Beyond addressing these topics, the workshop provided a space for exchanging experiences and discussing the difficulties trade unions face in their day-to-day activities. Trade union representatives examined the challenges of communicating with their membership, articulating workers\u2019 demands and negotiating with employers, while also discussing opportunities for closer cooperation among trade unions. The discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening organisational and negotiating capacities, as well as the need for more coordinated and effective approaches to protecting and advancing workers\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n\n
