Institute for Social Policy Musine Kokalari, within the framework of the MARCHES project, organized a consultative meeting in Pristina on April 30, bringing together institutional representatives, experts in energy, environment, and public health, as well as civil society actors to discuss sustainable urban heating alternatives and air pollution in Kosovo.<\/p>\n\n

During the meeting, project partners presented research findings on alternatives for replacing traditional wood and coal stoves with more efficient heating systems in urban households, as well as the potential impact of these changes on electricity demand and Kosovo\u2019s energy system.<\/p>\n\n

Mikael Skou Andersen, Professor at Aarhus University in Denmark, presented the research \u201cDamage Costs per Unit of Air Pollutants from Kosovo\u201d.<\/p>\n\n

Meanwhile, Steven Nordin, Professor at the Department of Psychology at Ume\u00e5 University, presented findings on citizens\u2019 concerns regarding air pollution in Kosovo.<\/p>\n\n

Julian Massenberg, Assistant Professor of Environmental Economics at the Department of Environmental Social Sciences and Geography at Aarhus University in Denmark, presented the research \u201cCosts and Benefits of Taking Action to Reduce Air Pollution and Improve Health\u201d.<\/p>\n\n

St\u00e5le Navrud, Professor at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, presented the research \u201cEconomic Valuation of Pollution-Related Health Impacts, Morbidity and Mortality\u201d, which also included Kosovo as part of the study.<\/p>\n\n

The discussion focused on different heating and electricity generation scenarios, while addressing the environmental, economic, and health-related aspects of the energy transition.<\/p>\n\n

Representatives from the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo, the Municipality of Fush\u00eb Kosova, the Municipality of Obiliq, the Ministry, KEK, ERO, civil society organizations, and other relevant stakeholders participated in the meeting.<\/p>\n\n

The MARCHES project is a four-year scientific project funded by the European Union under the Horizon programme. It brings together a consortium of 11 partners from across Europe and is coordinated by Aarhus University.<\/p>\n\n

MARCHES aims to improve methodologies for assessing the health costs of environmental stressors, with a particular focus on air and water pollution. MARCHES stands for \u201cMethodologies for Assessing the Real Costs to Health of Environmental Stressors\u201d.<\/p>\n\n
